This may sound like a stupid question, but People on many corvette threads have been discussing whether or not the high performance version of the corvette is supposed to be referred to as "Corvette Z06" or "Corvette Stingray Z06." Some have alsonoted that the original Z06 back in the 1960s was called "Corvette Stingray Z06" What do you think?
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

My first inclination is no. IMO, it should be like "Carrera" for the 911. You have the corvette stingray and the corvette Z06. I don't think it's a big deal which way it is, though,

This may sound crazy, but check Chevy's site.
Their marketing all lables it just the Corvette z06.

Does it have the Stingray fender badge, or say Stingray anywhere? If not, then no. Plus, Chevy doesn't seem to refer to it as "Stingray".

The name "Stingray" was the codename applied to the prototype for the C2. GM didn't want to spend any funding on a new Corvette, so a few GM engineers built a prototype of the sports car, called it the "Stingray" and raced it. It drove so well that GM couldn't ignore the demand and put it into production as the C2 Corvette.
The name carried on to the C3 and Chevy brought it back for the C7. All in all, it's a marketing name, like Mustang BOSS 302.

if you read the paragraph under all that it says the z06 launches the stingray into supercar territory implying(?) the z06 is a corvette stingray...maybe?

I did read that, but I read it only as it take the base Stingray and brings it up a notch or 5... It is built off the Stingray obviously.
But, Chevy is going to be very careful with phrasing in marketing. If it is a Corvette Stingray z06 it is always going to written exactly like that "Corvette Stingray z06". Big brands don't leave ambiguity with their branding as a rule of thumb.

I'm gonna say its probably not. The Stingray basically combines the C6's Z51 handling package with the extra specialness and looks that came along with that gen's GS. The Z06 has its own appearance and handling upgrades.

Of course it's a stingray.
This is simple. No package or option EVER denoted a stingray, only the model year(s).

Back then Z06 was the RPO (Regular Production Option) code for a special car.
Just like X11, Z28, ZL1 and on. There were ordering numbers.

All midyear corvettes were stingrays, the z06 was just an added option. No midyear covette was available not as a stingray.

They use "Stingray" for the base model because they don't want people calling it the "base model." Before, the most pedestrian Corvette had no identifier. Now it does.

Another question - are these on the road yet?
I was driving yesterday and thought I saw a yellow one. But it was going the other way so I only saw it briefly. Maybe it was just a Stingray
